senior project mentor/volunteering III

Well today's time is 8:53am. I have done my last night shift for this project. If needed I may do an evening shift at SF Kaiser. I have done yet another 8 hour shift, totaling up to 24 hours. The shift started at 11pm and ended on today 31st at 7am. During this shift I was able to help splint two patients and witnessed many interesting cases by which some were serious cases and some minor cases that was easy to solve. It was an exciting experience and learning more and more about the function of the ER is one of the most interesting parts of going into the medical field. The staff was nice and encouraging as always. Though it was a slow night, it was always fun tending to patients--even the ones that are not so great. However the experience is unbelievable and yet again I say it is an experience that will encourage and motivate people to do better in the world. Seeing as the nurses and doctors work so hard to help the patients in need is always heart warming.

senior project II volunteer/ mentoring

It is the 23rd of December here at SF Kaiser ER. I am doing a night shift from the 22nd to the 23rd. The time I came in yesterday/today was 11:00pm and ending at 7:00am. During this shift it has been busy, but I have learned new things during my time here. I have been volunteering and mentoring for 8 hours. I have witnessed many interesting procedures during the time here. Night shift is difficult, especially staying up in the middle of the night. In this profession it seems that all hours for sleep is mixed up. However it has been fun and interesting, and is still a learning process of the function in the ER. So far I have been mentored and volunteering for 16 hours. My next shift is another 8 hour shift making it a total of 24 hours. The next day will be on December 30th.

Senior project I

Well started mentor/community service at 5pm and ending at 1:30am in the morning of December 17. So far I have learned most of the equipment and the basic functions of the ER. I have also learned many of the medical terms while being used throughout the hospital. In some cases it is not expected as seen on the television. So as of right now I have been helping the nurses and doctors with basic needs for the patients such as bringing water as needed and confirmed by the officials or bringing supplies to the staff. The ER is quite interesting, I have learned how the doctors give report and assign orders for the patient. Also it was a great learning curve as to how to diagnose the patients conditions and what is happening to the patient. It felt as if I was really learning to become a resident in the medical field. My next day to volunteer/ mentor is December 22nd, a night shift. I look forward to going back.

Lilian believes that Isabel is like a caged bird who can not stretch her wings, so when hearing that Mrs. Touchett will take her to Florence, she was relieved.

While in America, in Albany, Isabel meets her eccentric aunt as she visits. As it seems Mrs. Touchett is very fond of Isabel the first time they meet. However as we read it seems Isabel never really fit in well with her family and is the odd one out. As she is given the opportunity to leave home, given by her aunt, Isabel accepts that and will go with her aunt to live with her at Florence.

Besides Isabel Archer, two other characters that are important to know are Mr. Warburton and Ralph Touchett. It seems from the start from when they met Miss Archer, they have thought she was an interesting person. Any how Mr. Warburton is interested in Isabel and tries to lure her. However she is not interested in this person and does not realize any thing. Ralph Touchett, the cousin of Isabel is important through his role as he will be inheriting all materials from his family and will be an important person for Isabel as the story goes on.

Portrait of a Lady is a difficult book to read, in order to read the book, readers need to understand that it goes to different points of view. It always seems that the narrator is telling the story, but it changes the narration. Everything in this book must be read carefully or there will be confusion. As a reader reads this book, the speaker changes. At times you must understand the point of views of the speaker. Such as the point of view of Miss Archer or another. This novel is a must read carefully or there will be misunderstanding and the reader will need to understand the symbols to understand the plot.

In the Portrait of a Lady, Miss Isabel Archer has learned about her family in Europe. She meets her distant aunt from England and is offered to stay at her house after a year her father passed away. She then meets her cousin and uncle, including a friend of her cousin. It seems that as she is taken with the thought of the house, Mr. Warburton. Throughout the time she spends time with them she feels tension. However it seems that Mr. Warburton takes a liking to Miss Archer, what will happen next to Miss Archer?

Portrait of a Lady, life for Isabel Archer has just begun. She and her relatives have just met and yet there are changes in personality. Every name in the book is a symbol and the tones of the names go with the individuals image. Such as Lord Wartburton where he has a disgusting personality. Through the book it seems that when she was back in the United States she was very insecure and not knowing what would happen. Let's see what happens to Miss Isabel Archer more in the book.

Hamlet essay progression

Today worked on Hamlet essay from 6pm to 7pm. I have revised it over again and changed some parts to the essay for grammar fluency.

Started a new book called Portrait of a Lady on Wednesday, November 10, 2010. It is an interesting book. Through the first and second chapters it begins slowly and makes you wonder whether the speaker is speaking in first person or third person. This book is quite complicated and need to be read carefully. So far in the novel, it starts out with many symbols, including the main characters name, Isabel Archer.

Snow #3

While we keep reading through Snow, Ka has arrived in Kars and researching about the the suicides. As we read it alludes to religious rights and the thought of irony comes to mind that Ka is living his life through and through and feeling this loneliness as he walks through the snow and is unable to find the happiness he wants, thus comparing himself to the girls who commit suicide because of the pressure the state and their parents are giving them by making them choose to wear their head scarves, or taking them off during school hours, thus making the girls choose religious tradition or suffering the consequences of being kicked out of school.

Snow #2

While reading Snow the narrator frames his story around being a reporter for the west, Europe. He tells people that he will be reporting about the suicides spreading throughout Turkey and Kars. The narrator tells his story through his eyes of what he sees in this lowly developed country and by that is able to understand the ideas of why he had come back and alluding to the ideas of religion throughout the book.

"Snow" Pamuk

In Snow by Orhan Pamuk tells the story of the people in Kars and the of a man name Ka who goes back to his hometown Kars, in Turkey and Instanbul. He tells a story of wanted to find himself when returning to Kars. Through this he creates a Buildungsroman of having to go through this ritual of going back to a childhood life and trying to grow back up to find himself again. Through this journey he goes through several obstacles.

Kite Runner #3

Kite Runner is a great book to read. It started out very straight forward and the language was not too hard to read. This book had many allusions to the ideas of religion and follows through with the narrators life. The speaker also puts in irony throughout the book and refers to the injustices of how cruel many people can be. In every chapter the narrator speaks of irony to the politics of the society and the unfairness of being treated as someone who is under the person he is closest to. It seems as if the narrator feels left out of the group and left behind from his father. The narrator has the feeling of abandonment from his father and the people he lives with. Leaving the feeling being guilty. This book goes along with a framed story of the narrator having to make difficult decisions, in order to help himself and to gain the pride of the unloving father.

Kite Runner #2

While reading Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, I find that the author alludes to the idea of social class. During my read of the book, the author writes of that in all areas of the world social class is the most important, whether it's the United States, Middle East, or China. As I read through the book, it states many ironic details to the idea the Adolf Hitler was a great man and that his tyranny was good for his country. However, as we were taught in U.S. History, we see this dictator as a horrible person who killed because he either did not like the race, religion, or sexuality. When reading and we see bias points of views of the idea that Hitler was not a bad man and a brilliant leader to his country and that what he did was right. Even though these people who believe that Hitler was brilliant, they did not understand that as Hitler expands his dictatorship, they all might die through his tyrant. Thus showing that the author is not bias to one point of view and is able to write irony through his ideas and allude to how people grow up.

How to Read Literature Like a Professor (JWong)

How to Read Literature Like a Professor was a little slow in the beginning; however it was able to lead to the understanding of the different allusions and the spotting of literary devices. Through the book it was able to help the understanding of how to close read into books. It also helped in diagnosing the most complicating book I read this summer, Snow. It created the idea of close reading and learning how the characters react in their environments.

Kite Runner

Well today I'm starting to read the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The book is starts out with a man living in current day San Francisco, who gets a phone call from a friend from Pakistan. The speaker reflects back to his childhood using allusions through his thoughts of his god as a Muslim. The book starts out very interesting. I wonder how it will be until the end of the book. 

AP Literature

Starting today I will be blogging about AP Literature. Basing the books needed to read for the class on allusions and comparison to other books. So all you AP students in AP English this fall, follow me on books that we might be reading to each other and see the comparison of our views! =D
